¹⁴ But it was not long before a violent wind (called a northeaster) swept down from the island.^{[a] 15} The ship was caught so that it couldn’t face the wind, and we gave up and were swept along. ¹⁶ As we drifted to the sheltered side of a small island called Cauda,^[b] we barely managed to secure the ship’s lifeboat.
